Quantz composed over three hundred works for the flute during his thirty-two years at the Potsdam court, many of which remained unknown to the public as they were hidden in royal archives.

Johann Joachim Quantz, a composer and flautist, rose from humble origins as the son of a blacksmith to become a personal friend of Frederick the Great of Prussia.

Quantz revolutionized flute design by adding a key and introducing a tuning slide and screw cork, which resolved pitch issues and allowed the instrument to be used in a wider range of ensembles.

Interpretation
