The LGT Young Soloists are an internationally renowned string ensemble of exceptionally talented musicians aged 15 to 25 from over 20 countries, founded in 2013 by violinist Alexander Gilman.
Compositional Technique
Each movement of Rachel Portman's "Dolomites, Pale Mountains" is inspired by a specific mountain range in the Dolomites and named in a different language to reflect the region's linguistic diversity.
Instruments
Cellist Caterina Isaia performs on a 1753 Ferdinando Gagliano cello, on loan from the Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt Weimar.
Composition History
Rachel Portman's "Dolomites, Pale Mountains" was commissioned by The Südtirol Festival Merano.Meran for its 40th anniversary.
Composer's Artistic Vision
Pēteris Vasks' Cello Concerto No. 2 engages with existential questions like the meaning of life, suffering, and hope, unfolding as a meditation on impermanence.
