Maximilian Hornung, the cellist, began playing the cello at the age of eight in Augsburg, Germany.

Gerhard Vielhaber, the pianist, began studying privately with Karl-Heinz Kämmerling in 1994, who later taught him at the Academy of Music and Theatre in Hanover.

Interpretation

The performers chose these pieces because they had played them frequently in concerts and felt they knew and highly regarded them.

Gerhard Vielhaber won first prize in the Concertino Praga International Radio Competition in 1997.

Interpretation

The artists aimed to record works where the musical impulse came equally from both the cello and the piano, rather than a cello CD with piano accompaniment.
