Composition History
Three of the four concertos on this album were composed for and dedicated to Gunilla von Bahr, a Swedish flautist who nurtured Finnish flute music in the 1970s.
Compositional Technique
Following Gunilla von Bahr's wishes, the solo parts of Leonid Bashmakov's and Einojuhani Rautavaara's concertos utilize all four members of the flute family: piccolo, normal flute, alto flute, and bass flute.
