Composer Biography
Ravel took pride in his Basque heritage, inherited from his mother, Marie Deluart, and was born in the Basque village of Ciboure.
Composition History
Ravel's earliest surviving work in any genre is the Sérénade grotesque, composed when he was a rebellious student at the Paris Conservatoire in 1892-93.
Performer Biography
Oleg Marshev, the pianist on this recording, trained at the Gnessin State Musical College and the Moscow Conservatoire, and is considered among the fifth generation of Russian pianism since Liszt.
