Dmitri Shostakovich wrote his Twenty-four Preludes and Fugues for Tatiana Nikolayeva, Arseny's grandmother, after being impressed by her playing when she won the International Bach Competition in 1950.

Arseny Tarasevich-Nikolaev's grandmother, Tatiana Nikolayeva, was a celebrated pianist and composer who studied with Aleksandr Goldenweiser, a friend of Scriabin and Rachmaninov.
Compositional Technique
Rachmaninov's Moments musicaux, written in a few weeks in 1896, are on a much grander scale than Franz Schubert's intimate pieces and present significant technical challenges.

Arseny Tarasevich-Nikolaev chose a program for his first Decca recording that he describes as "a bit like an old magic mirror" reflecting generations.
Composition History
Prokofiev's Visions fugitives were named "Mimolyotnosti" after lines from a sonnet improvised by Russian poet Konstantin Balmont, who was inspired by Prokofiev's playing.
