Composer Biography
Max Reger, the composer, sent his Suite in E minor for organ to Johannes Brahms in 1897, a few weeks before Brahms's death, hoping to dedicate a future symphony to him.
Instruments
Nobuko Imai, the violist on this album, plays an Andrea Guarneri viola made in Cremona in 1690.
Composer's Artistic Vision
Reger consciously associated himself with Brahms in how he released his works, gathering his two clarinet compositions under one opus number, similar to Brahms's two Clarinet Sonatas.

The Suites were recorded in July 2001 at Liinna Church in Sweden.
Performer Biography
Nobuko Imai, the violist, is the only violist to have won the highest prizes at both the Munich and Geneva International Viola Competitions.
