This recording is a co-production with SRF 2 Kultur and was supported by the Richard Flury-Stiftung, an organization promoting the composer's music.

Compositional Technique

Flury's string quartets often use motifs or themes across two or three movements, following his Classical models, and his recapitulations tend to reproduce material with little alteration.

Historical Context

The Schiffmann Quartet, an all-women ensemble, was an outlier in the highly patriarchal Swiss music scene of its time and was the dedicatee of Flury's Second String Quartet.

Composer's Artistic Vision

Flury's string quartets, unlike those of some contemporaries, do not show major stylistic shifts but rather a steady consolidation of his late Romantic style.
