Paavo Järvi, the conductor, was appointed Commandeur de l'ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Ministry of Culture in 2012 and received the Sibelius Medal in 2015 for his work promoting the Finnish composer's music.

Richard Strauss's tone poem, Don Quixote, is a concertante piece for cello and orchestra, with the cello representing the central character.
