Rimsky-Korsakov intended Sheherazade to be an orchestral suite of four movements, unified by themes and motives, presenting a kaleidoscope of fairy tale images.

Composition History

Rimsky-Korsakov composed his symphonic suite Sheherazade, Op. 35, in 1888, drawing inspiration from the 'Arabian Nights' folklore collection.

Performer Biography

Peter Oundjian, the Music Director of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, was the longest-serving first violinist of the renowned Tokyo String Quartet for fourteen years.
