This album is the first of three recordings by Robin Stevens on Toccata Classics, made possible by a generous family bequest in 2018.
Performer Biography
The Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO) was awarded royal patronage by Queen Elizabeth II in 1977 and recognized as one of Scotland's five National Performing Companies in 2007.

A key piece of advice from composer Geoffrey Poole introduced Robin Stevens to the fluidity of medieval plainsong, influencing his love for rhythmically free, recitative-like instrumental solos.

Robin Stevens' creativity was severely hampered for nearly two decades by post-viral fatigue, delaying his next important work until 2004.

Robin Stevens, the composer, was born in Wales in 1958 into an artistic family; his mother, Gillian Butterworth, was a pianist and lecturer.

This album features first recordings of Robin Stevens' works, made in the presence of the composer, and was recorded in June and August 2025.
