Bernhard Romberg, the composer, was considered by many to be the 'Paganini of the cello' during his lifetime.

Critical Reception

A British 'New Monthly Magazine' review from 1816 noted that one of Romberg's Op. 5 sonatas, despite its title, bore 'evident marks of having been written for the harp'.
