Stéphane Denève, the conductor on this album, is the newly-appointed Chief Conductor of the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra and has been Music Director of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra since 2005.

Composer Biography

Roussel studied at the Schola Cantorum with Vincent d'Indy and later taught counterpoint there, tutoring composers like Eric Satie, Edgard Varèse, and Bohuslav Martinů.

Critical Reception

The premiere of Padmâvatî in 1923 was a success, but its lavish stage requirements and technical demands meant subsequent revivals were rare.
