The compositional works of Johann Friedrich Ruhe, including several passions and occasional music, were long considered entirely lost.
Instruments
The fortepiano used for this recording is a replica of one of the oldest surviving fortepianos by Bartolomeo Cristofori, an Italian piano maker.

Composition History
The four sonatas for viola da gamba and basso continuo on this album, along with a suite for viola da gamba and violoncello, were discovered in the Greiz State Archives.
Interpretation
The performers chose to use a fortepiano for the two 'Viola da Gamba Solo' sonatas and a harpsichord for the two 'Suonate par Viola da Gamba et Fondamento' sonatas.
