Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges, was born in Guadeloupe and lived on Saint-Domingue (now Haiti) before his family settled in Paris around 1749.

The edition of Violin Concerto Op. 7, No. 2 used in this recording had to have its orchestral violin parts rewritten in some sections to remedy missing upper parts.
Historical Context
After the disbanding of the Amateurs, Saint-Georges founded the Concert de la Loge Olympique, the orchestra for whom Haydn later composed his 'Paris' Symphonies.
