Schubert, the composer, stated in a letter to his brother Ferdinand that he would never calculate or mess around with his heart's feelings, giving what is inside him as it is.

The third Impromptu, D 935, in B flat major, uses a theme from Schubert's incidental music for Rosamunde, which was also used in his third string quartet.

This recording was made in Salle Colonne, Paris, on May 6th and 7th, 2020, using a Steinway D piano.

Performer Biography

Ferenc Vizi, the pianist on this album, began his piano studies in Reghin, Transylvania, before continuing at the Paris Conservatoire with Gérard Frémy.

Composition History

Schubert's Piano Sonata in A major D 664 was written in the summer of 1819 during a journey to upper Austria with the singer Vogl.

Historical Context

During the 1980s in Romania, under N. Ceausescu, music other than patriotic or folk music was suppressed, leading to the closure of music schools and limited classical music availability.
