This recording concludes a series of settings of texts by 'Poets of Sensibility', a group of poets whose works Schubert set to music more extensively than any other.
Composer Biography
Johann Gaudenz von Salis-Seewis, a Swiss nobleman whose poems Schubert set, was a Captain in the Royal Swiss Guard before the French Revolution and later met Goethe, Schiller, and Herder.
Composition History
In 1816, Franz Schubert and his friends planned to publish a collection of his songs, sending an example to Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, a renowned German poet.
Performer Biography
Ulrich Eisenlohr, the pianist and Artistic Advisor for this project, has chosen German-speaking singers who represent the elite of today's young German Lieder singers.
Album & Artwork
This album is part of the Deutsche Schubert-Lied-Edition, a project that groups all of Schubert's over 700 songs according to the poets who inspired him.
