Schubert's Wanderer-Fantasie was commissioned by Emanuel Karl, a wealthy amateur musician who had studied under Hummel.

The Wanderer-Fantasie is structured around a passage from the theme of Schubert's Lied 'Der Wanderer', which is included in this recording.
