Schubert was accepted into the Imperial Chapel as a chorister in October 1808, on the recommendation of Antonio Salieri, the Court Composer.

Schubert wrote his first complete Mass, the Mass in F major, D. 105, between May 17 and July 22, 1814, when he was only 17 years old.
Notable Performances
The first performance of Schubert's Mass in F major was for the centenary celebration of Liechtenthal church, conducted by Schubert himself, with his brother Ferdinand playing the organ.
