Franz Schubert, the composer, was the twelfth of fourteen children and only the fourth to survive infancy.

Wojciech Waleczek, the pianist on this album, holds two doctorate degrees from the Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz and is a professor at the Silesian University in Katowice.

Composer Biography

Schubert was accepted into the Imperial Chapel as a chorister in October 1808 on the recommendation of Antonio Salieri, a prominent composer and conductor.

Composer's Artistic Vision

Schubert's admiration for Mozart is evident in his Fantasy in C minor, D. 2e, which quotes Mozart's composition in the same form and key.

Schubert chose to train as a primary school teacher after his voice broke in 1812, despite being offered a scholarship to continue his general education.

This album was recorded in July 2020 at the European Krzysztof Penderecki Center in Lusławice, Poland.

Schubert's health began to deteriorate in 1822-23 due to an incurable venereal infection, which overshadowed his remaining years and led to his early death.
