The Eckerle Piano Duo, founded in 2006 by Mariko and Volker Eckerle, regularly performs central works of the piano duet repertoire alongside rarely-heard pieces.

Robert Schumann, a keen duet player, created significant works for piano duet, most notably the Bilder aus Osten, Op. 66 (1848), intended for home and salon use rather than public concerts.
Composer's Artistic Vision
Schumann rarely arranged his own works for piano duet, but he almost always supervised arrangements made by trusted musicians in his circle, such as his brother-in-law Woldemar Bargiel or his disciple Carl Reinecke.
