This album features transcriptions of Robert Schumann's Adagio and Allegro and Johannes Brahms's Sonata in E minor, which were originally composed for other instruments, to expand the double bass repertoire.

Tomoko Takahashi, the pianist, is a scholarship holder of the German Academic Exchange Service and a two-time winner of the Artur Schnabel Competition in Berlin.
Composer Biography
Adolf Mišek, a double bassist and composer, was deeply connected to his Czech homeland, resigning from the Vienna Philharmonic in 1918 to move to Prague after the First Republic was declared.
Composition History
Robert Schumann's Adagio and Allegro, Op. 70, was originally titled Romanze und Allegro and was composed in February 1849 for the Dresden Hofkapelle horn player Julius Schlitterau.
Instruments
Ekkehard Beringer performs on a double bass made by the Venetian master Matteo Goffriller (1659-1742), which was loaned to him by the German broadcaster NDR.
Performer Biography
Ekkehard Beringer, the double bassist on this album, began playing the instrument at the unusually early age of ten and is currently the principal double bass in the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester.
