Composer Biography
Schumann initially intended to dedicate Kreisleriana to Clara Wieck, but the dedication was removed before publication to avoid provoking her father, Friedrich Wieck, who opposed their marriage.
Composition History
The Davidsbündlertänze were inspired by Schumann's love for Clara Wieck, his fiancée, and contain "nuptial thoughts" and her musical motto.
Composer's Artistic Vision
Schumann's Davidsbündlertänze feature two contrasting characters, Florestan and Eusebius, representing different aspects of his artistic personality, a concept borrowed from his literary idol Jean Paul.

The Kreisleriana were deeply personal to Schumann, dedicated to Clara Wieck, and he described them as containing "a positively wild love" and reflecting their lives.
