Clara Schumann contributed four songs to 'Liebesfrühling', Op. 37, fulfilling her husband Robert's wish for his birthday in June 1841.
Composer Biography
Robert Schumann had previously set a poem from Friedrich Rückert's 'Liebesfrühling' in 1840, titled 'Widmung', as a wedding present for his bride Clara.
Recording & Production
This album is the second disc in the Naxos complete Schumann Lieder series, recorded in September 2003 at the Kammermusikstudio, SWR-Stuttgart, Germany.
Critical Reception
The poet Friedrich Rückert, whose 'Liebesfrühling' poems were set to music by Robert and Clara Schumann, responded to their settings with an 'ingenious ghazal' of thanks.
