Performer Biography
The Freiburger Barockorchester (Freiburg Baroque Orchestra) is conducted by Pablo Heras-Casado, who was considered an ideal partner for this project.
Recording & Production
The recording took place in May and August-September 2014 at Teldex Studio Berlin, with Martin Sauer as artistic director.
Interpretation
The performers chose to record these pieces on a historical piano and stringed instruments with gut strings, along with a matching orchestral ensemble, to achieve a better balanced, articulated, and open-minded sound.
Instruments
Alexander Melnikov, the pianist, plays a Jean-Baptiste Streicher piano from Vienna, dating from 1847, which is part of the Edwin Beunk collection.
