Composer Biography
Cyril Scott was an infant prodigy at the piano and studied composition with Ivan Knorr at the Frankfurt Conservatory, where his fellow students included Percy Grainger, Roger Quilter, Norman O'Neill, and Balfour Gardiner, known as 'the Frankfurt Group.'
Compositional Technique
Cyril Scott's First Piano Concerto uses a chamber-like orchestra and features "cool jadelike sonorities" and "pearly crystalline piano figurations" to create an "oriental-neo-classical hybrid aroma."
