Leif Segerstam, born in Finland in 1944, studied violin, piano, composition, and conducting at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and the Juilliard School in New York.

Pia Segerstam, the cellist on this album, studied at the Sibelius Academy and the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris, winning first prizes for cello and chamber music.

More recently, Segerstam has created music organized in sections where parts are superimposed or interwoven randomly, allowing interpreters more freedom and resulting in a lively, mystical sound.
