The album title 'Silk and Sand' was inspired by two pieces from Nguyên Lê's 1996 album 'Three Trios', which he named 'Silk' and 'Sand'.

The album was recorded at Riverside Studios in Cologne, Germany, with guitar overdubs and mixing done by Nguyên Lê at Big Rock studio in Lyon, France.
