Constantine Orbelian, the conductor on this album, is an American pianist/conductor who became the first American ever to be music director of an ensemble in Russia, the Moscow Chamber Orchestra.

The Delos series of Russian songs, which includes some tracks on this album, originated in 2001 after a recording session in Moscow, where Dmitri Hvorostovsky and conductor Constantine Orbelian sang their favorite songs.
