Dr. Caravan has been a faculty member at Syracuse University for most of his musical career, where he teaches clarinet and saxophone and directs the Syracuse University Saxophone Ensemble.

The album series also includes pieces that demonstrate unconventional sound techniques for clarinet or saxophone, such as quarter-tone intervals, timbre variation, and multiphonics (simultaneous production of multiple pitches).
