Rued Langgaard, the composer, experienced his greatest success at 19 when his Symphony No. 1, Cliffside Pastorals, was performed by the Berlin Philharmonic.

Compositional Technique

The 'Russiske sange' (Russian Songs) use texts adapted from Ukrainian poetry, characterized by folk songs and a 'play with masks' that appealed to Langgaard's dramatic instincts.
