Performer Biography
James Dickenson, the other violinist, played with the Degas Quartet, performing at Carnegie Hall and the Aspen Music Festival, and currently plays with the Villiers Quartet.
Critical Reception
A contemporary critic suggested that the ideas and artistry in Spohr's duets were substantial enough to create three concertos, if orchestrated.

Louis Spohr, the composer, began his musical journey in Seesen, Germany, where he received his first violin lessons and composed his initial pieces.
Composition History
Louis Spohr composed his Violin Duets, Op. 39, in 1816 with the intention of financing his upcoming Italian concert tour.
