Performer Biography

Ramón Ortega Quero, the oboist, became principal oboist of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra in 2008 and won 1st prize at the ARD Munich International Music Competition in 2007.

Composition History

Stefan Heucke, the composer, created this cycle of four sonatas for woodwinds and piano in autumn 2020, enabled by an artist's grant during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown.

Notable Performances

This album features the world premiere recording of Stefan Heucke's Woodwind Sonatas Op. 114, which were first performed on July 24, 2022, at the 'Summerwinds' international woodwind festival.

Compositional Technique

The clarinet sonata features a variation movement based on Cesar Bresgen's song 'O du stille Zeit', a spontaneous inclusion by the composer in response to a video sent by fellow singers during the pandemic.

Performer Biography

Daniela Koch, the flutist on this album, has been the principal flutist of the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra since 2011 and won the Kobe International Flute Competition in Japan in 2007.
