Pianist Lucia Negro, born in Italy and living in Sweden since 1968, studied piano, composition, and conducting at the Naples Conservatory and with renowned pianists Carlo Zecchi and Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli.

At nine years old, Stenhammar received private piano lessons from Marie Louise Oberg, who, despite coming from a rural village, had studied composition at the Stockholm Conservatory with Franz Berwald.
