Steve Elcock, an Anglo-French composer now in his sixties, is self-taught and grew up outside the musical mainstream, having never entered competitions or attracted commissions.

This album was recorded in the Philharmonic Hall, Omsk, Siberia, from July 8-12, 2019, with Sergei Zhiganov as producer and recording engineer.

Composer Biography

Steve Elcock was 56 when his music was discovered by Toccata Classics in 2013, after decades of composing in obscurity while working in language services.

Composer's Artistic Vision

Steve Elcock's passion for the symphonic legacy of Swedish composer Allan Pettersson, an outsider from the musical establishment, inspired Elcock to begin composing in earnest in 1980.

Performer Biography

Dmitry Vasiliev, the conductor on this album, established the Tambov Symphony Orchestra in 1997 and has been the principal conductor of the Siberian Symphony Orchestra since 2005.

Compositional Technique

Steve Elcock's music, like that of some Scandinavian symphonists, uses serialism intermittently and selectively, often alongside tonal or stylistically retrospective writing.
