Victor Sangiorgio, the pianist on this recording, gave his first public performances at age five and by nineteen had been a soloist with all major Australian orchestras.

Composition History

Stravinsky's Serenade in A was written for Brunswick, his first recording company, with each movement designed to fit neatly on one side of a 78rpm gramophone record.

For Stravinsky, the piano was a vital compositional aid, a 'crucible for refining ideas' where he would try out and analyze every note and relationship of notes.

Composition History

Stravinsky's Circus Polka, his last work for solo piano, was commissioned by Barnum and Bailey's circus and designed to be danced by young elephants.
