This album is dedicated to the memory of Alain Marion, a great French flautist and pedagogue, who was Sharon Bezaly's teacher.
Composition History
The new Boehm flute led to the creation of compositions that would have been unplayable before, as well as numerous arrangements of operatic themes for flute and piano.
Performer Biography
Flautist Sharon Bezaly began studying at age 11 and was invited by Maestro Zubin Mehta to perform as a soloist with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra at age 14.
Instruments
The Boehm system radically modified the flute's structure and mechanism, allowing for enlarged finger holes and keys placed in acoustically ideal positions, increasing its power and expressive range.
Performer Biography
Pianist Ervin Nagy won first prize in the Hungarian National Young Pianist Competition at age 18 and later studied at the Ferenc Liszt Music Academy in Budapest.
Instruments
The modern concert flute was developed by German flautist Theobald Boehm, who produced his "perfected flute" in 1878.
