Composition History
Tartini's violin concertos, like all his works, were left undated, with only one exception, Concerto D89, which is dated 1724.
Compositional Technique
Some of Tartini's "mottos" are written in a particular coded language, possibly to limit their comprehension to his pupils or to avoid contaminating sacred works with profane elements.

Felix Ayo, the violinist and conductor on this album, won the "Grand Prix du Disque" for his recording of Vivaldi's Four Seasons.
Composer Biography
Giuseppe Tartini, born in Pirano d'Istria in 1692, was already widely known and esteemed as a violinist and composer by the 1720s.
Compositional Technique
All three concertos on this album feature "mottos" at the beginning of slow movements, intended to give precise meaning and an interpretive key to the piece.
