Tchaikovsky was inspired to compose his "Romeo and Juliet" Fantasy Overture by Mily Balakirev, a key figure in the "Mighty Handful" who advocated for a renewal of Russian art music.
Compositional Technique
In his "Romeo and Juliet" Fantasy Overture, Tchaikovsky uses a passionate love theme contrasted with a dramatic theme representing the Capulet and Montague families' struggle.
Recording & Production
This album was recorded at Tonhalle Maag in Zurich, with Symphony No. 6 recorded in October and November 2019, and 'Romeo and Juliet' in January 2021.
