The Russian Philharmonic Orchestra, featured on this album, was originally formed as a recording ensemble and won a Gramophone Award in 2006 for a Shostakovich recording.

Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto was inspired by Édouard Lalo's Symphonie espagnole, which he played with violinist Iosif Kotek, and the first movement was completed in just two days.
