1/6Recording & Production
This album is a live recording from the 531st 'Sunday Concert' in Magdeburg, a series that has existed since 1961 and focuses on Georg Philipp Telemann's chamber music.
Composition History
Telemann announced the publication of these arias in a newspaper in early December 1726, encouraged by the success of his previous cantata cycle, Harmonischer GottesDienst.
Compositional Technique
The vocal parts in these arias are designed to be sung by different voice registers (soprano/tenor or alto/bass), with usually one aria in a higher and one in a lower range for each Sunday.
Composition History
These arias by Georg Philipp Telemann are from an annual cycle published between late 1726 and late 1727, conceived to allow the arias to be extracted from larger cantatas.
Composer's Artistic Vision
Telemann intended this new collection of arias primarily for 'private use' in domestic and private music-making, unlike his previous work which served both 'public and private use'.
Compositional Technique
Telemann compensated for the 'withdrawal' of original instrumental accompaniment in these published arias by specially handling the bass lines, which are often thematically elaborated.
