Bruckner's Fifth Symphony was completed on January 4, 1878, and unlike his previous symphonies, no different versions were penned after its premiere.

Erwin Horn, a scholar dedicated to Anton Bruckner's work, prepared a large part of the organ transcriptions for this recording.

Hansjörg Albrecht, the organist on this recording, is known internationally as both a conductor and a concert organist, and is a specialist in organ transcriptions.
Cultural Impact
The first five notes of Bruckner's Fifth Symphony's main theme form the basis of 'Seven Nation Army' by The White Stripes, a popular football fan anthem since 2003/04.
Composer's Artistic Vision
Anton Bruckner himself considered his Fifth Symphony to be his 'Fantastic' and a 'masterpiece of counterpoint'.
