This album was recorded in March 2015 at the Church of San Vicente de Pombeiro in Spain during the Via Stellae Festival, with collaboration from Radio Galega and the University of Santiago de Compostela.
Composer Biography
Juan Hidalgo, a leading composer of the Spanish Baroque, was a harpist and harpsichordist for the Spanish Royal Chapel for over 50 years, contributing significantly to theatre music.
Composition History
The Guerra Manuscript is named after Joseph Miguel de Guerra, a scribe at the Royal Chapel in Madrid, who copied all one hundred songs in the collection.

This album is the final volume in a complete recording of the one hundred vocal works found in the 17th-century Guerra Manuscript, a series that began in 2007.
Interpretation
Manuel Vilas, the director, ensured that historically appropriate plucked string instruments, especially the double harp, were used for the continuo parts throughout this album series.
