Composer György Ligeti stated that if he could only have one musical work on a desert island, he would choose Koroliov's Bach recording of The Art of Fugue.
Composer's Artistic Vision
Chopin's fascination with the contrapuntalist Bach and his Well-Tempered Clavier, Mozart's Requiem, and Cherubini's treatise on counterpoint and fugue is often forgotten.
Historical Context
In 1842, while working on the F minor Ballade, Chopin was described by painter Eugène Delacroix as 'the truest artist' he had ever met, working in a pleasant house in Nohant.
