Performer Biography
Megumi Hashiba, the pianist, began playing at age four and studied with Mitsuko Uchida, whose influence was crucial to her enrollment at the prestigious Toho Gakuen School of Music in Tokyo.
Instruments
The arpeggione, for which Schubert composed his Sonata, was a six-stringed instrument with a fretted fingerboard, also known as a bow-guitar or violoncello-guitar.
Recording & Production
The track "Zephyr" by Jenö Hubay comes from an early 1980s recording session that ended abruptly when the REVOX tape recorder caught fire.
Composition History
Schubert composed the Arpeggione Sonata at the request of Vinzenz Schuster, the main player of the newly invented arpeggione, to present the instrument to the public.
