Eduardo Angulo used a completely tonal language in his Harp Concerto as a way to move past his composition studies in the Netherlands, where he was required to write only atonal music.
Performer Biography
Janet Paulus, the harpist on this album, has been Principal Harp in the Minería Symphony Orchestra, based in Mexico City, since 2002.
Composition History
The piece Saudade, by Arturo Rodríguez, was originally for solo harp but was adapted for solo harp and strings after the composer kept hearing a string-orchestra accompaniment in his head for a couple of years.
Performer Biography
Carlos Miguel Prieto, the conductor on this album, is the foremost Mexican conductor of his generation and was selected by Musical America as 'Conductor of the Year' in 2019.
