The name Tonus Peregrinus refers to an ancient Church psalm tone, which was unusual for having a different recitation tone in each half, hence its name 'wandering tone'.

Tonus Peregrinus, the ensemble performing on this album, was founded at New College, Oxford, in 1990.
Compositional Technique
The arrangements are designed for widespread use, allowing listeners to sing along with the tune in each verse, and choral parts are mostly standard four-part harmony.

Performer Biography
Antony Pitts, the director of Tonus Peregrinus, founded the ensemble while an Academic Scholar at New College, Oxford.

This album was recorded in July 2003 at the Church of St Jude-on-the-Hill in Hampstead Garden Suburb, London, using 24-bit technology for high-definition sound.
