For String Quartet No. 3, Tim Brady conceived of the string quartet not as a finished score, but as a process for making music, providing instructions for the musicians to compose their own quartet collaboratively.

This album was recorded in St. Augustin Church in Montreal, Quebec, over four days in February 2023.

Composer Tim Brady initially lost interest in writing string quartets after his first one in 1980, only returning to the medium in 2013 after a commission from the New Orford String Quartet.
