Joseph Keilberth, the conductor on this album, began his career at 17 as a rehearsal pianist in his hometown of Karlsruhe, eventually becoming General Music Director there in 1935.

Joseph Keilberth, the conductor, took over the German Philharmonic Orchestra in Prague in 1940 and later founded the Bamberger Symphoniker with former members of that orchestra.

Joseph Keilberth, the conductor, died in 1968 in Munich from a heart attack while conducting a performance of Wagner's 'Tristan'.
