Composer Biography

Tosti achieved recognition as a singer and interpreter of Neapolitan repertoire, establishing friendships with D'Annunzio and Salvatore di Giacomo, and was appointed singing teacher to Margherita of Savoy.

Composition History

Although Tosti composed nearly 400 catalogued songs, he had only written about ten by age thirty; his prolific compositional period began in his forties during the 1880s.

Tosti also developed close relationships with famous composers like Verdi, Puccini, Mascagni, Leoncavallo, and Boito, and was appointed singing master to the British Royal Family in London.

Recording & Production

The project for this recording was conceived by Francesco Sanvitale, emeritus director of the Istituto Nazionale Tostiano of Ortona, who passed away prematurely in 2015.
